“Find Balance In Your Life”

As COVID-19 remains an obstacle in our everyday lives, our daily exercise and movement routines are often overlooked or forgotten. However, research has shown that engaging in physical activities can boost your immune system as well as increase lung capacity. Consequently, recent studies have demonstrated that individuals that prioritize daily exercise have a greater chance at fighting COVID-19.

Individuals of all ages can benefit from practicing movement through proper physical activities that help to maintain energy levels and the overall well-being of your body. In addition, it prevents increased risks that come from sedentary lifestyles such as falling, elevated blood pressure and mental health issues. Although this could happen at any age, older adults are at a higher risk of falling due to balance disorders. Over the course of the pandemic, 1 in 4 individuals ranging from age 50 to 80, have reported one or more instances of falling. This aligns with the idea that 37% of individuals, in that 50 to 80 age range, also reported a decrease in time spent engaged in physical activity throughout the pandemic. As a result, physicians and physical therapists are advising people to seek proper physical activity and/or therapy if you or a loved one starts to experience difficulty balancing.

The key to balance is movement and Balance Awareness Week (September 19th – 25th) is the perfect time for you and your loved ones to prioritize it. It’s time to live life – balanced!

At Florida E.N.T. & Allergy, patients are seen by a board-certified physician for balance evaluations. Their physicians understand the challenges that individuals encounter with maintaining balance and mobility and want to implicate change to increase their independence.

  • Lightheadedness
  • Blurry Vision
  • Sudden feeling that your head is spinning (Vertigo)
  • Lack of balance when walking
  • Nausea
  • Serious ear complications such as ringing or hearing loss

Symptoms can appear anytime without warning and range from mild to severe.
